The International Society for Atopic Dermatitis (ISAD) joined with ISPD to observe World Atopic Eczema Day on September 14, highlighting that effective care for atopic dermatitis (AD) should not be a privilege.
In a statement, the organizations said everyone living with AD should have access to essential, safe and affordable treatment, ranging from basic skin care and moisturizers to the medicines needed for adequate disease control.
They pointed to the recent inclusion of low-cost emollients for AD in the WHO Essential Medicines List as an important step forward in improving access to care.
However, they stressed that equitable access to the full spectrum of effective AD treatments must remain the ultimate goal for patients worldwide.
Prof Alain Taïeb, President of ISAD, shared the message through the ISAD and ISPD channels, including LinkedIn, as part of the awareness day.
