The Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (JEADV) has announced that from January 2027 it will transition to a fully online publication model, ending print distribution of the journal.
After that date, JEADV will no longer be printed or distributed in physical format. All content, including original articles, reviews, guidelines and clinical insights, will be published and accessed exclusively online, following a direction already taken by many leading scientific journals worldwide.
According to EADV, ending print publication and print subscriptions is a direct step toward reducing the journal's environmental footprint. The move is expected to reduce paper consumption and printing-related resources, cut down on packaging, shipping and associated waste, and lower carbon emissions linked to print production and global distribution.
EADV says the change supports its broader sustainability strategy and its continued transition toward more efficient, environmentally responsible digital solutions across its activities and publications.
The organisation has stressed that while the format is changing, its commitment to members and readers is not. Full online access will continue uninterrupted, offering immediate access to the latest research, reviews and clinical insights, availability anytime and from any device, and the same peer-review process and editorial standards JEADV is known for.
For members who still want a printed copy, JEADV will offer the option to purchase an annual print volume through Wiley's Member Direct Print-on-Demand programme, available at a discount from standard pricing.
EADV said the move to online-only publication is guided by three goals: modernising JEADV's publishing model in line with current best practice in scientific communication, supporting sustainability objectives through reduced resource use and emissions, and maintaining and enhancing the member and reader experience with continued full online access.
The organisation described the shift as a natural next step in the journal's evolution, thanking members and readers for their continued support and trust as JEADV moves forward with the change.
